From 1926 to 1970 the founder of the company John Mc Clure and his family retained ownership of the publishing company which he founded. However in 1970 Dr. Millburn E. Calhoun successfully brought the rights to Pelican Publishing Company. Which remained in his family’s hands until May of 2019, when it was acquired by Arcadia Publishing.

It focuses on publishing non-fiction:

Pelican Publishing Company primarily focuses on publishing non-fiction books. As an example, they have published cookbooks and books which focus on the Civil War as well as motivational books. Why was “The South Was Right!”, such a controversial title. It focused on the viewpoint that the confederates in the South, had the legal right to secede from the union.

It published a book which told the story of the patrons of a New Orleans pub before and after Hurricane Katrina:

Pelican Publishing Company also published “Finn McCool’s Football Club”, which told multiple stories about the patrons of a New Orleans pub, before, during and after Hurricane Katrina struck the state of New Orleans.
